THE LIGHTYEARS ARE BACK updated 12.5.2008

The Lightyears play infectious pop-rock characterised by catchy melodies, lush vocal harmonies and high-energy live performances.

International touring experience includes the French Alps, Belgium, South Korea, Thailand and the East Coast of America. The band have sold out venues in both London and Philadelphia as well as playing to audiences of 500+ in East Asia.

grandchrispinkLast year, The Lightyears played Glastonbury Festival, won BEST POP/ROCK ACT at the 2007 INDY Awards, appeared live on WXPN national radio in the USA to an audience of over 3 million and began recording with top producer Hugh Padgham (Sting & The Police, Genesis, Paul McCartney, David Bowie).

2008 kicked off with sell-out gigs across London and a nomination for this year'’s INDY Awards. The Lightyears were also selected as an "“XFM Featured Artist"” in early February and received primetime airplay on Steve Harris’' show. In early May the band performed to a crowd of around 6,000 people at London Road Stadium in Peterborough.

Plans for the near future include two gigs at Glastonbury '08, a return to Asia in May and the release of a new album in October.

WOODCOTE RALLY 45 YEARS ON..updated 7.4.2008

On Saturday 24th August 1964 the very first Woodcote Veteran Transport Rally was held at Hatt’s Farm in Goring Heath. Today, it’s 2008 and we’re celebrating the 45th anniversary of this great village event. Over the years, through the Woodcote Charitable Association, over £307,000 have been donated to local charities and worthy causes as a result of this event and we hope, of course, to keep on being able do so for many years to come.

This year, to celebrate our 45th anniversary, we have invited back to the Rally all of the original 14 steam engines that attended that very first rally. Unfortunately, not all of them are available to take part but we’re hopeful of getting around 8 or so of them to attend and it will be great to welcome them back!

This year, so far, 35 full sized steam engines, with at least five never having been to Woodcote before, and a record breaking 25 model steam engines have registered to take part and there’s still plenty of time for more to do so. The annual steam engine evening road run will take place around the village on the Saturday evening, returning in time for the evening entertainment. The steam engines are, of course, just a part of the weekend event as, after all, we are a Veteran Transport Rally so there will be all sorts of other things to see including cars, motor bikes, military vehicles, commercial vehicles, and tractors (in many different classes and states of restoration!).

There will also be the craft and country fayre, the street market and numerous food stalls and, of course, the CAMRA beer tent. Did I forget to mention the live entertainment, there’s that too!

TREVOR WINS NATIONAL TRACTION ENGINE TRUST AWARD
..updated 28.2.2008

ArthurNapperTrophyWoodcote’s very own Trevor Smallbone was rewarded for his hard efforts at last year’s Woodcote Rally for arranging the Burrells’ Gold Medal Centenary event when the famous engines re-enacted the 1907 Royal Automobile Clubs Commercial Vehicle Trials run. For the Woodcote Rally, Trevor managed to get together some 18 Burrells engines, which is a world record for the number of these engines at any one event, and he did this at Woodcote!... click here to read more
