Steam at the Rally 2009 We have 35 full size engines booked to attend. out of which are- 10 new engines that have never visited woodcote before. 4 of the engines are unique, and the only known survivors in preservation of there type. 4 showmans engines booked to attend, two have never been to Woodcote before, these being David Fowler's 7nhp Burrell showmans "Earl Kitchener", and Tom Mayhew will be appearing with his 8nhp Burrell Showmans "Pride of Worcester". Richard Hazell will be attending with his collection of Sentinels S8,S6,S4. Nigel Greenaway will be attending his fiirst Woodcote with his Aveling & Porter KND tractor after a major overhaul and after re-conversion back into its standard tractor form (previously converted into a showmans tractor). Malcolm Randall will be exhibiting his newly restored Tasker B2 tractor, another first time visitor, and an engine that has hardly been rallied. Gerald & Kate Russell from Sussex will be attending with there Foden Timber tractor, another first time visitor. Joe & Danny Dovey from Southampton will be attending with there Foden C Type wagon for the very first time. Simon & Jack Vickery from Hertfordshire will be exhibiting two rare Ruston & Hornsby steam rollers, one is another first time visitor. James Hodgson will be attending with his unique Wilder/Fowler ploughing engine, which was built down the road in Wallingford by R J & H Wilder. John Forshaw will be appearing with the unique Ransomes Sims & Jeffries colonial traction engine, which is the only engine of its type in preservation in the UK. David Spooner will be exhibitinh his unique Aveling & Porter shay drive steam roller, another unique engine, and the sole survivor of its type in preservation. Ben Brown will be attending with his famous Marshall traction engine "Old Timer" an engine that was responsible for starting steam rallies, this year will mark its 60th year in preservation, having been purchased by the late Arthur Napper in 1949. who later went onto to race with this engine for a firkin of ale in 1950, which resulted in steam rallies all over the country being set up and the start of steam rallies as we know them today. There will be all our usual exhibitors of road rollers, steam wagons, and traction engines etc.. as normal.
It promises to be one of the best selection and variety of steam engines ever assembled at Woodcote, and with four unique/rare engines and many new engines attending, it will be the Steam Rally not to be missed!! |
